Gabashvili among winners
MIAMI -- Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili set up a second-round meeting with world No. 1 Rafael Nadal after a straight-sets win at the Sony Ericsson Open on Thursday.
The 23-year-old Gabashvili battled past Italy's Simone Bolelli 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. He has never progressed past the second round in a Grand Slam and is ranked 72nd in the world.
American men went 4-2 on Thursday, with John Isner, Sam Querrey, Amer Delic and Bobby Reynolds advancing. American women went 1-1, with Jill Craybas losing and Alexa Glatch winning.
Israel's Shahar Peer scored a 6-1, 7-6 (5) straight set victory over Belgian teen Tamaryn Hendler, playing only her second career tour match.
Glatch will face top-seeded fellow American Serena Williams in the second round. The 19-year-old Californian, ranked 124 in the world, defeated Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky 6-4, 6-1.
Serbia's world No. 3 Jelena Jankovic will play Argentina's 35th-ranked Gisela Dulko, who beat Spain's Lourdes Dominguez 6-2, 6-4.
