Top seed Medina Garrigues advances

FEZ, Morocco -- Top-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues advanced to the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix SAR on Wednesday by rallying to beat Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic 1-6, 7-6 (1), 6-3.

Medina Garrigues, who lost last year's final to Gisela Dulko, had her serve broken eight times but held on to set up an all-Spanish match against Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

Dominguez Lino had also come back from a set down to beat Anne Keothavong 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Second-seeded Alisa Kleybanova and sixth-seeded Ekaterina Makarova also advanced. Both Russian players won in straight sets, with Kleybanova defeating Jarmila Groth of Slovakia 6-4, 6-1, and Makarova beating Akiko Morigami of Japan 6-0, 6-1.

Third-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia, No. 7 Roberta Vinci of Italy and No. 8 Shahar Peer of Israel were all eliminated in the second round by unseeded players. Melinda Czink of Hungary beat Pavlyuchenkova 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-3; Czech player Lucie Hradecka defeated Peer 6-4, 6-1; and Polona Hercog of Slovenia beat Vinci 6-2, 6-4.

Also, Marta Domachowska of Poland beat Eva Fernandez-Brugues of Spain 6-4, 6-4.
