Almagro tops Hernych in straight sets
MUNICH -- Nicolas Almagro of Spain has advanced to the second round of the BMW Open by beating Jan Hernych of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4.
Need the scores from any match played in today's tournaments? Almagro broke Hernych four times and saved two of the three break points he faced.
It was the clay-court tournament's only match on Sunday.
Earlier, defending champion Fernando Gonzalez pulled out because of an ankle injury. The Chilean lost to top-ranked Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the Rome Masters on Saturday and flew to Munich on Sunday to announce his withdrawal.
