Ferrer defeats Galung in Ordina Open

DEN BOSCH, Netherlands -- Third-seeded David Ferrer of Spain began his title defense at the Ordina Open with a 6-2, 7-5 win Monday over wild-card entry Jesse Huta Galung.

Sixth-seeded Marc Gicquel of France defeated Steve Darcis 6-2 6-3.

Marcos Baghdatis' match against second-seeded Tommy Robredo was rescheduled to Tuesday because of darkness. Thiemo de Bakker's match against Bjorn Phau also was called for darkness at 7-6 (3), 2-6, 1-1.

Mischa Zverev was 4-1 down when his retirement allowed Michael Llodra of France to advance to the second round. Oscar Hernandez and Jeremy Chardy also won.

In the women's event, Daniela Hantuchova defeated Roberta Vinci 7-6 (2) 6-4, while Ksenia Pervak stopped Petra Cetkovska 7-5 7-6 (6). Flavia Pennetta defeated Chan Yung-Jan 6-4 6-2 to reach the second round.
