BAD GASTEIN, Austria -- Top-seeded Alize Cornet of France rallied to beat Mariana Duque Marino of Colombia 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the first round of the Nuernberger Gastein Ladies on Tuesday.
Cornet dropped her serve three times in the opening set and trailed 6-5 in the second before prevailing for only her second win since the French Open and her fifth win in the last five months.
Cornet will next play Patricia Mayr of Austria, hoping to string two wins together for the first time since mid-February at Dubai.
Mayr defeated Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain 6-3, 6-3.
Eighth-seeded Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic, who reached the final in Bad Gastein last year as a qualifier, was upset by Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain 6-2, 6-2.
Defending champion Pauline Parmentier of France routed Carmen Klaschka of Germany 6-1, 6-1.
Third-seeded Sybille Bammer, who won her second WTA Tour title at the Prague Open on Sunday, double-faulted seven times and lost three of her service games but still defeated Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 7-5, 6-4.
Austria's Yvonne Meusburger, who lost the final here in 2007, defeated Sharon Fichman of Canada 6-4, 6-4.
