Second seed Medina Garrigues ousted
PORTOROZ, Slovenia -- Second-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues was ousted by qualifier Vesna Manasieva 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 in the first round of the Slovenia Open on Tuesday.
Manasieva came through qualifying for only the second time this year -- after Wimbledon -- for her first win on the main tour since last September. It was the qualifier's 20th birthday.
She'll face wild card Petra Martic in the second round.
Also advancing was qualifier Ksenia Pervak, who overcame Julia Georges 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Pervak will face Dinara Safina, who made her first appearance since losing in the Wimbledon semifinals to Venus Williams.
Fourth-seeded Roberta Vinci easily beat Nastja Kolar 6-2, 6-0, and seventh-seeded Vera Dushevina allowed Tathiana Garbin only three games in winning 6-0, 6-3.
Fifth-seeded Sara Errani beat Arantxa Rus 6-1, 6-0, while eighth-seeded Petra Kvitova fought for nearly three hours to defeat Galina Voskoboeva 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Also advancing were Maria Elena Camerin and Camille Pin.
