Doubles champion Paes injured
NEW DELHI -- India doubles player Leander Paes pulled out of this week's Davis Cup series against South Africa.
A spokesman for the India team says Tuesday that Paes would not be able to play in the Davis Cup because of an injury sustained during the U.S. Open.
Yuki Bhambri will replace Paes for the series that begins Friday in South Africa.
At the U.S. Open, Paes won the doubles title with Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic. He also reached the mixed doubles final with Cara Black of Zimbabwe.
Paes was to pair up with another doubles specialist, Mahesh Bhupathi, in the Davis Cup. The winner of the best-of-five series advances to the World Group.
