Suarez Navarro, Kvitova to meet
LINZ, Austria -- Fourth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain defeated Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday for her sixth quarterfinal berth of the season at the Generali Ladies.
No. 8 seed Sara Errani of Italy and Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic also advanced to the quarterfinals.
The 34th-ranked Suarez Navarro dropped serve early in the opening set but saved three more break points afterward.
Suarez Navarro next plays Kvitova, who upset No. 5 seed Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 7-5. Kvitova, ranked 55th, has not dropped a set in three matches this season against her higher-ranked countrywoman.
Errani got past Tatjana Malek of Germany 6-3, 6-0. Malek scored only four points on her own serve in the second set.
In first-round play, second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland defeated Monica Niculescu of Romania 6-4, 6-2.
Radwanska next plays Alize Cornet of France, who rallied to beat Kristina Barrois of Germany 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
No. 3 seed Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium defeated Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland 7-6 (6), 6-4.
The 24th-ranked Wickmayer, who has qualified for next month's season-ending Tournament of Champions in Bali, missed five set points in the opening set and converted only one of 10 break points.
In the second round, Wickmayer faces Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania, who beat Sybille Bammer of Austria 6-3, 6-1.
