Second-seeded Monaco advances
SANTIAGO, Chile -- Argentines Juan Monaco and Juan Ignacio Chela each beat their Chilean opponents Monday to advance to the second round of the Movistar Open.
Monaco, seeded No. 2, defeated Nicolas Massu 6-3, 6-4 on the red clay court. Chela won 7-5, 6-2 over Jorge Aguilar.
"This is my first tournament of the year and it's going well, and I don't feel any pressure," Monaco said.
No. 8 Potito Starace of Italy didn't make it out of the first round, losing 7-6 (3), 6-4 to Australian Peter Luczak. Alberto Martin of Spain advanced with a 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4 victory over Marcos Daniel of Brazil.
Defending champion and top seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile will face Oscar Hernandez of Spain in the first round on Tuesday. Gonzalez is attempting to win this event for the fifth time.
