Defending champ Berdych wins at BMW

MUNICH -- Defending champion Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic moved into the second round of the BMW Open with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kevin Krawietz of Germany.
Krawietz was playing his second tour-level tournament. Two-time runner-up Mikhail Youzhny of Russia also advanced Monday, beating Jeremy Chardy of France 6-1, 6-4.
Andreas Beck of Germany won his first match in six tournaments by beating Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan, 2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1.
Two more Germans advanced, both beating French opponents. Benjamin Becker ousted Stephane Robert 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 and Philipp Petzschner defeated seventh-seeded Julien Benneteau 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
