SYDNEY -- U.S. Open winner Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina will resume his comeback from a 12-month injury layoff as a wild card at the Sydney International in January.
Del Potro fell from No. 4 to No. 259 in the world rankings after dropping out of the tour after this year's Australian Open and having surgery on his right wrist in May.
He withdrew from the U.S. Open and then lost his first comeback matches in Bangkok in September and Tokyo in October.
The field for the Jan. 9-15 Sydney tournament includes Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus and Sam Querrey of the United States.
