Andy Murray closes out Jonas Bjorkman in five sets and will get Hyung-Taik Lee, assuming he can beat Canas. In his only Grand Slam appearance of the season, Murray reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open.

Showman Justin Gimelstob's U.S. Open isn't over quite yet. He and partner Amer Delic are on Court 10 and have won the first set of their doubles match against Jurgen Melzer and Robin Haase.

Hyung-Taik Lee is up two sets and a break on Guillermo Canas on Court 11. Lee has been to the third round only once in the last six years at the U.S. Open.

Murray breaks Bjorkman to start the fifth while "Domcha" has seen her day come to an end in straight sets.

Martina Hingis has won her second-round match and will face the Azarenka-Cibulkova winner next. Hingis has not been past the quarterfinals of a Slam since her return.

Of the 33 sets Isner has played this year in ATP level competition, 18 of them have gone to a tiebreak. He will also jump from No. 184 to around No. 142 by reaching the third round. He began the summer No. 839 (on June 25) at the Chico Futures event (winning the title). Not bad in just over two months.

Jonas Bjorkman has forced Andy Murray to a fifth set. Bjorkman is 29-12 in his career in five-set matches, while Murray 3-4.

Dominika Cibulkova's cheering section, made up of about six or seven men, is out on Court 8 with the chants of "Domcha! Domcha! Domcha! Doooooominika!" after every point she wins.

Watch out for Andy Murray, who has won the second and third sets rather quickly and is looking good. (He withdrew from the Pilot Pen leading up to the Open.) If Murray beats Jonas Bjorkman, it will be the first time since the Sony Ericsson Open back in March that he's won consecutive matches at the same event.

1:23 p.m. Rode in this morning and sat next to 16-year-old Tyler Ehrman, who is a ball person this year for the first time. And he's one of the few people who can say he saw Richard Gasquet play. (The Frenchman pulled out earlier today.) Ehrman also worked in Arthur Ashe Stadium for James Blake's first-round match and was assigned to the photographers' pit.

"It seemed fun," said Ehrman, who decided to try out this year after a friend of his told him how much fun it was. "You get to be up close to the top players. It's a great experience."

In fact, Ehrman almost got up close with Argentine Sergio Roitman in the first round, having to jump out of the way after Roitman lost his footing and nearly tumbled into the teen.

"I asked him in Spanish, 'Are you OK?' And he said 'yes.'"

When they aren't on the court, Ehrman and his colleagues hang out in the ball persons' lounge -- Chinese poker is the game of choice. He was, however, surprised when I told him about some of the amenities that are in the Players' Lounge.

"They have video games?" Ehrman said when I told him about the two PlayStation3 machines in the Players' Lounge.

In additon to a nice hourly wage, Ehrman was just as excited about the free pair of Polo tennis shoes, shirts, shorts, jacket and pants he'll get to keep for being a ball person.

The Manhattan native does have a schedule conflict next week: his senior year of high school starts Sept. 4.

"I'm hoping the school will let me slide for a few days," he said. "If they do, I'll have a lot of work to make up.

"But it'll be worth it."

Amazing that less than two weeks ago, Donald Young was winless (0-11) on the ATP Tour. Now the 18-year-old American lefty is a win away from reaching the second week of a Grand Slam after Richard Gasquet withdrew this morning because of a sore throat. Gasquet said he wasn't sick for his first-round match but that he got a fever last night and that, "With my illness, I'm sure I can't win this match." Many of the reporters in the media center were surprised to see the Frenchman wouldn't even try and give it a go today.

Young will now face either Feliciano Lopez or Igor Andreev in the third round. (Not to get ahead of ourselves, but if Young wins his next match, he'll get either John Isner or Roger Federer in the fourth round.)

Notes from some matches that either just finished or are in-progress:

Anna Chakvetadze and Sania Mirza both won in straight sets, setting up a third-round meeting … the third time these two have met this summer. Chakvetadze beat Mirza in the semifinals at Cincinnati and the final at Stanford. Chakvetadze also had a win earlier in the season over Mirza in Hobart.

Hyung-Taik Lee has a nice following in the stands on Court 11 against Guillermo Canas and broke the Argentine to take an early lead in the first set. Canas' season started strong (ask Roger Federer) but he was 0-2 on hard court heading into the U.S. Open before winning his first-round match.

Svetlana Kuznetsova needed three sets to beat Camille Pin and reach the third round. Who do you think will reach the final from the bottom half of the women's draw?
