Venus: I'm always motivated after the French
Hi everyone! First of all I want to give a big thank you to everyone who joined in on the chat session last week. As always I had a ball, and I love hearing from all of you.
I am excited to be back at Wimbledon. As soon as my feet touch the grass it seems that my game excels to another level. My serve starts falling in, my feet move faster, I come to the net, and I run faster; my game just seems to come together all at once. I think also that my A-game suddenly comes on because I am always really motivated after the French Open. Unfortunately I have never won that title, and I am really disappointed afterward. Wimbledon is only two weeks after the French, and I always work really hard in between these two events because I really want to bounce back to let myself and everyone know that not winning the French was just a fluke.
I had a busy week leading up to Wimbledon. First things first Serena and I released our first book! It is called "How to Play Tennis". It is published by Dorling Kindersley and it is a great book! There is instruction on each page from Serena with pictures to go with it. There are also examples and stories from when we were training before we became professionals and also stories from when we became professionals. My favorite story is when Serena shares how she developed such a big forehand, but you will have to read the book to find out (to give you a hint it was from a freak accident!) I was very excited about the launch, I had to really calm myself down and focus back on the tennis.
The rain is a constant factor here at this event. I already played my first round match -- I got the win -- but I barely got through it. I had one rain delay in the middle of the match and the rain was just seconds away after the final point. I played on court one and there is a room that they take you to wait it out just in case the rain stops quickly because court one is a long, long way from the locker rooms. I was sitting in there trying to make sure that I had a good game plan for when I returned to the court because the rain started at 5-3, 15-15 and I really wanted to serve out the set. I was trying so hard to stay focused so of course within one minute Serena walked through the door talking with a friend about the latest gossip. This was gossip from a reliable source, it was so hard not to be distracted!
