Is Mike Woodson on thin ice?
Mike Woodson's already-precarious position with the Knicks became that much more untenable on Monday, as a coaching blunder resulted in an embarrassing loss to the Wizards. Woodson failed to call a timeout to set up a final play with 6.9 seconds to play and trailing by a point, despite New York having three timeouts to use. Carmelo Anthony thinks Woodson is safe for now, but with losses piling up, it's becoming more and more likely that the Knicks will have a new coach soon.

Punters are athletes -- this much is not in dispute -- but they're athletes with a focus on kicking things and not necessarily on tackling people. That being said, if they're in position to make a play, blockers have to take them into account. Terence Garvin did a bit more than take punter Kevin Huber into account, however -- he broke Huber's jaw and cracked a vertebra in his neck as a result of a massive hit during a 68-yard touchdown return in Sunday's Bengals-Steelers game. Officials didn't throw a flag, but this seems exactly like the type of hit that the NFL will come down on during its review.

Mega-events coming in 2014
If mega-events are your thing, just wait for 2014. You'll get a double dose in February with a cold-weather Super Bowl in New Jersey and the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Bide your time until June, and you will be rewarded with the 2014 FIFA World Cup from Brazil with its conveniently timed games for U.S. viewing. Weather and construction delays could plague these events, but that hasn't dampened the public's anticipation for seeing greatness on a grand stage. With so much on the line, which event would you most want to attend? Would travel be a deterrent?
