Sanchez placed on injured reserve

The New York Jets saga continues, as the team has announced that quarterback Mark Sanchez has been placed on short-term injured reserve, meaning he could return in eight weeks. This comes on the heels of rookie quarterback Geno Smith going 1-1 in his first two games, playing the Patriots tough in Foxborough. Will Sanchez make it back this season, and if so, will he supplant Smith as the starter?

Patriots shaky in win over Jets

That was ugly. Sure, the New England Patriots beat the New York Jets on Thursday to move to 2-0. But a 13-10 home win, featuring just 232 total yards and 185 passing by Tom Brady, didn't bring back memories of New England circa, say, one year ago. Then again, that's to be expected from a team without its five leading receivers from last season and its top newcomer (Danny Amendola) out. Can the Pats overcome this lack of pass-catchers?

Mark Sanchez likely done for season

More bad news for Mark Sanchez: It appears the embattled Jets quarterback will require surgery that will force him to miss the entire 2013 season. Sanchez already had been fighting a battle for his starting job (now won by default by Geno Smith), and the news puts his future with the team in doubt. He's had some success as a starter, but with his recent struggles, Sanchez's time as a team's primary option may be over.

  • Mark Sanchez likely will have surgery that will end his season. Will he ever start another game in the NFL?

NFL Week 2: Jets at Patriots

Both the Jets and Patriots earned hard-fought victories in Week 1, but neither team had much time to celebrate. With a Thursday night tilt looming in Foxborough, the Jets have been busy coaching up Geno Smith for his first battle against Bill Belichick and the Patriots are huddled away trying to make sense of their receiving game. Which team will study their way to 2-0? Is the matchup still a good rivalry? Cast your votes!

Red Sox rout Tigers with 8 HRs

A lot happened in last night's 20-4 Red Sox win over the Tigers. David Ortiz got his 2,000th career hit. The Red Sox blasted eight home runs. Shane Victorino dove into the stands to catch a ball, and then courteously returned a phone a fan had dropped on the field. Most importantly, the balance of power between the Red Sox and Tigers may have been irrevocably altered. We'll see how much of Boston's offensive outburst carries over when it heads to New York to take on a suddenly resurgent Yankees team.
