Lions hire Jim Caldwell

The Lions moved quickly after losing out on Ken Whisenhunt, hiring former Colts coach and current Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell as their new head coach. Caldwell had a 26-22 record in Indianapolis over three years, reaching the Super Bowl in his first season and making the playoffs in his second. The Ravens' offense struggled under his guidance this season, but the Lions don't seem to hold him particularly responsible for Baltimore ranking 29th in total offense. Caldwell will have an array of offensive weapons in Detroit, but he'll have to find a way to turn Matthew Stafford's excellent numerical performance into actual wins.

Lions fire Schwartz

The Lions have fired head coach Jim Schwartz after a disappointing 7-9 season. In five seasons with the Lions, Schwartz compiled a 29-51 record and led Detroit to only one playoff berth. Despite the team's underachievement, the Lions may be the most appealing coaching destinations this offseason, thanks in large part to Calvin Johnson, a strong defensive front and the presence of a talented, though very inconsistent, Matthew Stafford.

Who wins NFC East? NFC North?

It's all down to the final Sunday for the NFC East and NFC North. But more than that, the losers of these two big games -- Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears -- will see their seasons end. As if that's not enough, major quarterback intrigue surrounds the matchups; the Cowboys are waiting to see if Tony Romo will be healthy enough to play while the Packers on Thursday announced Aaron Rodgers will return. How will it all play out?

Ravens change playoff picture?

Six Justin Tucker field goals -- including a 61-yarder with 38 seconds left -- were all the Baltimore Ravens needed on "Monday Night Football" to throw three playoff races for a loop. By beating the Detroit Lions 18-16, Baltimore moved to 8-6 and within one game of the Cincinnati Bengals atop the AFC North. By losing, Detroit fell to 7-7 and a surprising third in an NFC North Division it recently controlled. And then there's the AFC wild-card race, which still features three strong candidates -- four if you count Cincinnati -- fighting for one last spot. How will it all shake out?

NFL Week 15 -- Ravens at Lions

The Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions enter Monday with identical records, but not-so-identical situations. Detroit is tied atop -- and leads by tiebreaker -- the NFC North. Baltimore is second in the AFC North, tied for the conference's final playoff spot. Moreover, Detroit seems to be playing the most difficult of its final three games this weekend, while Baltimore's tall task is one of three on the way in. Which team stays above .500?
