Tobacco Road or Iron Bowl?

Alabama's championship makes it three in a row for the state. But is Alabama's football better than North Carolina's basketball, including 11 titles between Duke, North Carolina and NC State?

SportsNation

What is college football's all-time flagship program?

Alabama's second national championship in the past three seasons makes it the program of the moment, and there is plenty of history beyond that in Tuscaloosa. But is Alabama the all-time No. 1? Below you'll find the 10 programs with the most all-time wins, along with five other programs that won national titles in the BCS era.

2. How should Brady Hoke use Denard Robinson?

San Diego State QB Ryan Lindley has 224 rushing yards in three seasons with the Aztecs. Of course, those are negative rushing yards. So former SDSU and new Michigan coach Brady Hoke is the perfect guy for Denard Robinson, right? Robinson is staying, but how should Hoke use him? College football coaching PollCenter.

1. Is Brady Hoke the best bet to restore a power?

In roughly the span of the past 12 months, three of the biggest brand names in football hired new coaches from Cincinnati. Temple and San Diego State. These are new times for Notre Dame (Brian Kelly), Miami (Al Golden) and Michigan (Brady Hoke), respectively. But which coach is likely to restore a former power to glory? PollCenter.

You can practically hear the sighs coming from LSU's campus as Les Miles' decision to stay at LSU has finally been confirmed. Whether those are sighs of relief or frustration, however, is open to debate.

Miles is 62-17 with a national championship at LSU, although his decision-making has been called into question in recent years. An 11-2 season and a Cotton Bowl win is nothing to scoff at, but in the high-octane and intensely competitive SEC, anything less than an undefeated season is tantamount to failure. LSU seemed hesitant and unsure in the fourth quarter of a loss to Auburn, and was unable to hold on to a late lead in an upset against Arkansas. Will LSU ever be a national championship contender again under Miles?

When Bo Schembechler famously explained ditching a basketball coach who accepted another job prior to the NCAA tournament by saying a "Michigan man" would coach the Wolverines, it came across as a statement of power. Say it now, and people might think it's because nobody else is interested in coaching in Ann Arbor.

While reports of his professional demise proved premature Tuesday, Rich Rodriguez didn't make it through Wednesday as Michigan's football coach. Back in July, Sportsnation ranked football coach at Michigan at No. 9 on the list of the most pressure-packed jobs in sports, ahead of the gridiron positions at Texas, Alabama and Ohio State. But whoever holds it next season as Rodriguez's successor, is it still a good job?

Gary (Charlotte )

Do you think Michigan's decision on Rodriguez would be simpler if it was his offense that was struggling so much instead of the defense?

Mark Schlabach
Mark Schlabach

No, I think he's as responsible for the defensive woes because he hired Greg Robinson and stuck with him. Full transcript

1. Will Rich Rodriguez be Michigan's coach next season?

Rich Rodriguez escaped serious sanctions from the NCAA, which tacked on just a single year of probation after finding the coach didn't fail to promote a culture of compliance with regard to practice and timing violations. But will he escape the wrath of Wolverines fans as another season hangs in the balance at 5-3?

Game 1: SportsNation's burning questions for No. 1 Ohio State at No. 18 Wisconsin

Josh (Madison, WI)

What does the addition of freshman star, James White, mean to the Badgers this year as they get ready for OSU?

Big Ten blogger Adam Rittenberg
Adam Rittenberg

It's huge, Josh. White complements John Clay so well, and he'll really test Ohio State's speed on defense when he gets into the open field. I'm simply amazed that a true freshman has been able to establish himself as Wisconsin 1A back next to Clay. It's a real testament to White and the coaches who recruited him. Full transcript

Game 2: SportsNation's burning questions for No. 12 Arkansas at No. 7 Auburn

Rod (Gulf Shores, AL)

What do you think of Cam Newton? Is he good enough to come out this year in the draft?

Mel Kiper
Mel Kiper

I think the jury is still out on that. He hasn't played many games. He played in junior college last year. He's a fourth-year junior. You're talking about an Auburn team that is 6-0 and they still have 6 big games left. They're only halfway through the season. We only saw glimpses of Cam Newton as a true freshman at Florida. They have LSU next week. with Newton, you see running skills, rocket arm. The only issue I have with him is that he takes some risk with his arm in making some throws and he's fortunate that they arne't picked off. We'll see how his decision making evolves. Full transcript

Game 3: SportsNation's burning questions for Texas at No. 5 Nebraska

Denard Robinson (The Big House)

Dave, I got T-Magic beat in the sprint. If I had as good of an offensive line as Nebraska does, I'd be putting up twice the numbers!

Big 12 blogger David Ubben
David Ubben

Maybe, but I'll still take Martinez in a dead sprint. I got e-mails from Nebraska fans calling me crazy before the season for calling their offensive line the best in the league over the summer. Seems like those have mysteriously stopped. I remember an interview I did with Keith Williams over the spring where he couldn't stop smiling when he was talking about the running game, and just kept saying, "It's nice." I have to wonder if the big guys up front have seen this coming for awhile. Full transcript

Game 4: SportsNation's burning questions for No. 15 Iowa at Michigan

Dan (Iowa City)

No Denard Robinson vs. the Number 1 Defense commentary for us?

Ivan Maisel
Ivan Maisel

Michigan State "held" Robinson to 301 total yards by being very disciplined. That's exactly how Iowa plays defense. Nothing fancy. The Hawkeyes just do their job. I think Iowa will win for that reason and a few others. Full transcript

Game 1: SportsNation's burning questions for No. 1 Alabama at No. 19 South Carolina

BB (Carolina)

How do you see Bama/SC playing out?

Pat Forde
Pat Forde

BB: Nick Saban is the best coach I've seen at getting his teams to play at a consistent level regardless of opponent -- but I still expect a little letdown from the Tide after that Florida game. And South Carolina has had an extra week to prepare. Bottom line: Think that game will be close for a while. Maybe even a long while. But Bama will win. Full transcript

Game 2: SportsNation's burning questions for No. 17 Michigan State at No. 18 Michigan

Greg Jones (East Lansing)

I keep hearing all this talk about about D-Rob and how good the Michigan offense is, but I'm the best linebacker in the big ten. What do I gotta do to shut everybody up?

Adam Rittenberg
Adam Rittenberg

Prevent the explosion plays, Greg. Robinson is going to get his yards, but he can't get the runs of 50 yards or more where no one can catch him. You need to continue to take great angles to the football and wrap up. You're fast enough to keep Robinson in check near the line. But if he gets in the open field, no one is catching him. Full transcript

Game 3: SportsNation's burning questions for No. 12 LSU at No. 14 Florida

Don (Sugar Land)

Heard everybody input on LSU win vs Tenn except you. What do you think of Les Miles and what to do if he finishes 8-4 or 9-3 agian?

Ivan Maisel
David Ubben

I came up with the right analogy yesterday talking to Beano Cook on the phone (By the way, our newest podcast is up and awaiting your download). Les Miles should be called Coach Clouseau. He does everything wrong, and gets the right result. I'm just not sure if Steve Martin could master Miles' accent. Full transcript

Game 4: SportsNation's burning questions for No. 23 Florida State at No. 13 Miami

Chris (Boulder, CO)

Heather, Miami is reporting that there are less than 2000 tickets left for the big game on Saturday. Miami fans clearly think this is a bigger game than usual. Do you see this as the biggest game in Randy Shannon's tenure as head coach?

ACC blogger Heather Dinich
Heather Dinich

Hadn't thought of it like that, but now that you mention it, it probably is. He said the win at Clemson was one of the biggest for the program since he's been there. With each win, the next game only gets bigger. Full transcript

Game 5: SportsNation's burning questions for USC at No. 16 Stanford

Matt (DC)

How long will JH stay at Stanford? Despite the loss he has clearly changed the culture in a very short time and I know UGA or LSU will be begging him to come

Mark Schlabach
Mark Schlabach

I think Harbaugh is a future NFL coach if he leaves Stanford. I think he's there for a couple of years, but given his brother's success in NFL, I wouldn't be surprised to see him follow that career path. Full transcript
