Knicks fire Mike Woodson
The Knicks are cleaning house under Phil Jackson, as they fired Mike Woodson and the rest of the team's coaching staff on Monday. Woodson was 109-79 as the team's head coach, but he struggled to live up to expectations this season, posting a 37-45 record and missing the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference. This is the first real impact move of Jackson's tenure as Knicks president -- and Steve Kerr says he will talk about the job with Jackson -- but given the state of the team this past season, it likely will not be the last.
Is Mike Woodson on thin ice?
Mike Woodson's already-precarious position with the Knicks became that much more untenable on Monday, as a coaching blunder resulted in an embarrassing loss to the Wizards. Woodson failed to call a timeout to set up a final play with 6.9 seconds to play and trailing by a point, despite New York having three timeouts to use. Carmelo Anthony thinks Woodson is safe for now, but with losses piling up, it's becoming more and more likely that the Knicks will have a new coach soon.
