Chicago swept the MLB All-Star Game Final Vote, with the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo and White Sox's Chris Sale each earning enough fan votes to play in the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday in Minneapolis.

How did they do it? Sure, perhaps it's because each player deserved to be All-Stars based on their on-field performance (Sale especially). Or it could be they were pushed through via heavy (and often clever) use of social media, via the hashtags #VoteRizzo and #TargetSale, with each tweet containing said hashtags counting as an official vote for the player.

Check it out:

There's something of an arms race among ballpark food vendors. No longer content with simple servings of hot dogs and beer, they're deploying ever-more-complex arrangements of calories in an attempt to win the stomachs of fans. The Rangers offered up a two-foot hot dog. The Diamondbacks countered with an 18-inch corn dog. Now, the White Sox are mashing together 12 scoops of ice cream in a monster sundae weighing in at a whopping three pounds. We're all for heaping quantities of tasty, unhealthy food to complement our baseball experience -- this is America, after all -- but we're worried about where all this is leading. If the Fenway Frank becomes self-aware and starts rampaging through Boston, don't say we didn't warn you.

Red Sox trade for Jake Peavy

With Clay Buchholz ailing and the Tampa Bay Rays sitting atop the AL East, the Boston Red Sox made their move late Tuesday, trading for 32-year-old Chicago White Sox righty Jake Peavy in a three-team deal that also involves the Detroit Tigers. The former Cy Young winner doesn't come for free, though, as the Red Sox reportedly are shipping out infielder Jose Iglesias, who has played rather well for Boston this season, as part of the seven-player deal.

What do you think of the Red Sox trading 23-year-old Jose Iglesias (.330/.376/.409 in 63 G) for Jake Peavy in a three-team deal?

Deals at the MLB trade deadline?

The MLB trade deadline is fast approaching, and teams are looking to find good deals in a thin market. Jake Peavy has gone to Boston, but he might not be the only one on the move; Cliff Lee, too is on the market. The rest of the field lacks big names, but given how tight some playoff races are this year, it may not take acquiring a Hall of Fame talent to make a difference.

As fans of the comedy series "Portlandia'' know, the secret to merchandising is to slap a bird on it. And apparently, the same holds true for baseball uniforms.

After four rounds of voting, tigers, fish, elephants, snakes, astronauts, seafarers, gun-toting officers of the law, buccaneers, heavenly bodies, Native Americans, pinstriped Northeners and even two pairs of colored socks are all gone. Our Battle of the Uniforms will finish with the Battle of the Birds.

#UniBattle

The No. 1-seeded Cardinals, who have as iconic a St. Louis design as the Gateway Arch or a bottle of Bud, beat their longtime rival, the Chicago Cubs, in the final round of the National League voting, 54 percent to 46 percent.

Meanwhile, the Cinderella team of the American League bracket upset yet another higher-seeded team in the AL championship. By a margin of 3,103 votes, fans declared they prefer the orange and black Baltimore Orioles over the traditional uniform worn by everyone from Babe Ruth to Derek Jeter. Or perhaps fans just hate the Yankees' pinstripes.

Whatever the reason, it's the Cardinals versus the Orioles for the title of baseball's best uniform. Bird watchers should get their binoculars out for this ornithological fight, though Toronto fans are probably wondering why their colorful Jay was found wanting.

This is serious business, so to make sure that everyone gets a chance to take a long, careful look at these two uniforms and judge the colors, logos, caps and overall style of both home and road uniforms, our polls will be open throughout the weekend. You can cast your vote up until noon ET Monday, when we will declare the winner.

So good luck Cardinals and Orioles. May the better uniform win. And remember voters, this isn't about who actually wears the uniforms but the uniforms themselves.
