Trout MVP in Jeter's final ASG

Beloved New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter helped the American League to a 5-3 All-Star Game win Tuesday night, going 2-for-2 with a double and a run in his final Midsummer Classic. MVP honors, however, went to the almost-undisputed best player in baseball, Mike Trout; the Los Angeles Angels outfielder went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs -- including the game-winner. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright, meanwhile, stirred some controversy by saying he intentionally took it easy on Jeter (he later walked back a bit on his comments). Did Jeter get snubbed? Do you have a problem with Wainwright?

Cespedes wins HR Derby

Yasiel Puig hit zero home runs. Giancarlo Stanton also posted a no-homer round. But when it all was over, the 2014 Home Run Derby went the same way as 2013: with Yoenis Cespedes the winner. The Oakland Athletics left fielder topped the Cincinnati Reds' Todd Frazier 9-1 in the final round, and became the first back-to-back winner of the contest since Ken Griffey Jr. in 1998 and 1999. The victory came under a new format, in which there were only seven outs, and the top hitter from each league got a bye into the finals, where they would face the winner of a playoff between the Nos. 2 and 3 hitters.

Chicago swept the MLB All-Star Game Final Vote, with the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo and White Sox's Chris Sale each earning enough fan votes to play in the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday in Minneapolis.

How did they do it? Sure, perhaps it's because each player deserved to be All-Stars based on their on-field performance (Sale especially). Or it could be they were pushed through via heavy (and often clever) use of social media, via the hashtags #VoteRizzo and #TargetSale, with each tweet containing said hashtags counting as an official vote for the player.

Check it out:

Chris Sale

(Note: Chef Morimoto and LaRoyce Hawkins indeed retweeted the Sox.)
