The Patriots have suffered injuries to several major stars this season, but they've somehow managed a 5-1 record despite not having Rob Gronkowski and losing Vince Wilfork. Their latest injury may be a bit too much to handle, however, as linebacker Jerod Mayo's season is over after surgery on his torn pectoral muscle. Mayo is the Patriots' perennial leader in tackles. Combined with the injury to Wilfork, the Patriots' defense suddenly looks vulnerable.

Here's a sampling of what readers had to say in our Facebook conversation on the story:

Bigger loss?

Wilfork and Mayo were both key components of the Patriots' defense, and neither will be easy to replace for New England.

We may not have the Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning matchup in the AFC Championship Game much of SportsNation wanted to see, but both championship games are loaded with talent. Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis and Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez are hoping to end their careers on top, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is two games away from winning a Super Bowl in his 10th career start, and Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan's 0-for-3 record in the playoffs is history after a thrilling 30-28 victory over the Seahawks. How do the best players remaining in the NFL playoffs stack up? Click the images to vote.
