Winter World Cup in Qatar?
This week, FIFA's general secretary told a French radio station that he expects the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be played in the winter. The world's biggest soccer tournament is traditionally played in June and July, but there have been major concerns over staging the World Cup in Qatar's extreme heat. Mega-events coming in 2014
If mega-events are your thing, just wait for 2014. You'll get a double dose in February with a cold-weather Super Bowl in New Jersey and the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Bide your time until June, and you will be rewarded with the 2014 FIFA World Cup from Brazil with its conveniently timed games for U.S. viewing. Weather and construction delays could plague these events, but that hasn't dampened the public's anticipation for seeing greatness on a grand stage. USA's win benefits Mexico
The United States and Mexico are fierce rivals on the pitch, but El Tri found itself in debt to its longtime enemy Tuesday night. Mexico's World Cup hopes are still alive after a 3-2 Team USA win over Panama. It'll have to play New Zealand in a winner-take-all match if it wants to attempt a World Cup run in 2014, but for now, it has Team USA's backups to thank for taking their match against Panama seriously.

Confederations Cup final
Some of the world's best soccer players will be on the field Sunday when host Brazil takes on defending World Cup champion Spain for the FIFA Confederations Cup title. Spain has experience on its side, with players like Xavi and Andres Iniesta who have won on soccer's biggest stage.
