Willie Randolph could be managing for his job this season after such a historic collapse last year. Often criticized for his lack of fire, Randolph will look to avoid the complacency of 2007.

The Mets have an outstanding pitcher to lead off their rotation. They still have their young studs in the top of the lineup. They can only hope that the only thing different this year than last is that they don't do the choke or collapse thing. If they can avoid that, then I see the Mets as the odds on favorite to win the NL East.

With Santana, Pedro, Perez and Maine and a host of promising arms, our boys of summer in the National League should set the league on fire. If they don't, fans will start to take Shea down early.
-- Michael Howes

The addition of Santana makes the Mets the team to beat in the East. But in all fairness to the Phillies, they will hang tight and make things interesting. As far as the rest of the division, the reunion of Tom Glavine and John Smoltz in Atlanta will be great for fans to watch but won't be great for wins. -- tcab2880

The Mets are younger and deeper in the East as far as starters go. No one else can say that their 3 and 4 guys both won 15 games last year anywhere else in baseball. Not to mention that the Mets have Mr. Santana (the best pitcher in baseball). Pedro is back healthy in a contract year. Whether it's Pelfry or El Duque in the 5 slot, it doesn't matter.
