1991 UNLV Runnin' Rebels

Ranked No. 1 the entire season, the defending NCAA champion UNLV Runnin' Rebels ran off 34 straight wins, for a 45-game winning streak over two seasons. Many thought UNLV would keep running to a second straight national title, but the Rebels were upset by Duke in the national title game 79-77, finishing the season 34-1.

UNLV finished the regular season in dominating fashion, with an 18-0 Big West Conference regular season record. After winning the regular season title, UNLV won the league tournament as well.

The Jerry Tarkanian-led squad scored more than 100 points 14 times during the year, including a 112-105 win at second-ranked Arkansas in February. The team led the nation in scoring margin at plus-26.7 (scoring 97.7 ppg and allowing 71 ppg). UNLV shot 53.5 percent from the field overall and 41.3 percent from beyond the 3-point line.

Four players averaged double figures, including Larry Johnson's team-high 22.7 ppg. Johnson was named to the first team All-America squad for the second straight year.
