Perfection. We're reminded of the 1972 Dolphins every season, until the final team without a loss gets beaten. Among the hall of famers associated with that undefeated team are coach Don Shula, linebacker Nick Buoniconti and fullback Larry Csonka. One of the greatest Dolphins, quarterback Dan Marino, never won the Super Bowl (XLI will be the ninth held in the Miami area). Buccaneer defensive end Lee Roy Selmon is also in the Hall. With the addition of the Jaguars in 1995, Florida became one of two states with three franchises.

COLLEGE
No. 2 Florida
From swagger to stagger, Florida's teams never take half steps. Onetime Heisman winner Steve Spurrier raised the bar as Florida's coach with a national title in 1996. Florida State won two in the 1990s under Bobby Bowden, and Miami has five championships since 1980. Players with careers at one of Florida's schools include running back Emmitt Smith and Heisman-winning quarterbacks Chris Weinke, Danny Wuerffel, Vinny Testaverde, Gino Torretta and Charlie Ward.

Miami, Florida and Florida State live off in-state talent, and recruiters nationwide visit the Sunshine State to try to catch speed. In any Division I media guide, there's likely a player from Florida on the roster. Spring 2006 DI signees: 260. Fall 2006 high school football teams: 511.
