Quarterback Dan Fouts wasn't selected until the third round of the 1973 draft by the Chargers. The former Oregon player proceeded to throw for 43,040 yards and 254 touchdowns in the NFL. Other Ducks in the Hall of Fame include Mel Renfro, whom the Cowboys converted from halfback to defensive back, 49ers linebacker Dave Wilcox and quarterback Norm Van Brocklin, who threw for 554 yards in a game in 1951.

Beneath the glare of Oregon's fashion-experiment uniforms is a program that has blossomed with 14 bowl appearances since the 1980s. Mike Bellotti won 97 games and coached teams with players such as Joey Harrington, who was promoted for the Heisman with an eight-story billboard in New York. At "Civil War" rival Oregon State during the 1962-63 season, Terry Baker won the Heisman and played in the Final Four. Dennis Erickson led the Beavers to an 11-1 season and a Fiesta Bowl win in 2000.
