If there's any doubt about where the spotlight shines in Green Bay, the city's representation on the Internet might provide a clue. Indeed, the Packers rule in Green Bay -- and throughout Wisconsin. Founded in 1919 and the only publicly owned team in major pro sports, the Packers enjoy a dedicated following that knows no rival; the team has sold out every home game since 1960, and season-ticket holders famously include the tickets in their wills, foiling the tens of thousands of Cheeseheads who reside on the team's decades-long waiting list.

The Green Bay Metro bus system provides public transportation service throughout the city, hitting even the major non-Packers attractions like the National Railroad Museum, the Bay Beach Amusement Park and the Green Bay Botanical Garden. Bus fare for the Metro is $1.50.

Austin Straubel International Airport is less than eight miles southwest of Green Bay but does not offer public transportation into the city. Standard shuttle services are available, and a cab ride will cost approximately $15.

Pay Homage to the Frozen Tundra
Even if you're not resourceful or well-funded enough to land a precious ticket to a Packers game, you can still enjoy Lambeau Field and Packers culture. At Lambeau, the Packers Hall of Fame contains more than 70 exhibits depicting franchise history, including the famous Ice Bowl and the team's three Super Bowl trophies. Get a Game with the Gamblers
A junior hockey squad that is among the elite in the USHL, the two-time champion Green Bay Gamblers have become a pipeline to the NHL since their debut in 1994, with more than 20 alumni going on to the big leagues. The team plays its home games at Resch Center, which opened in 2002 and offers luxury boxes to see the Gamblers or the resident Arena League football team, the Green Bay Blizzard.

Hit the Trails on a Snowmobile
It doesn't get much colder than Green Bay in the wintertime, so why not up your personal wind-chill factor? Snowmobilers are welcome on the Mountain-Bay State Trail, which crosses 83 miles and three counties from Green Bay to Rib Mountain, passing through a Native American reservation and an Amish settlement.

Touch the Tundra in the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon
If the full 26.2-mile course isn't for you, there is also a half-marathon and a 5K to choose from in this annual event each May. The expo and pre-race pasta dinner take place inside the Lambeau Field Atrium. After a tranquil jaunt through tree lined residential streets, all three events pass through Lambeau Field during the final mile and finish with a tailgate themed finish line party.

Be Wowed by the Waterboard Warriors
Throughout the summer, the Waterboard Warriors Water Ski Show puts on free performances at the Fox River that include everything but jumping the shark. Human pyramids, barefoot skiing and big-time jumps are among the stunts that highlight the twice-weekly show between June and August.

Heritage Hill State Historical Park

Many of the Green Bay area's historic buildings are gathered here. Fort Howard Hospital, built in 1834, is the oldest standing military hospital in the U.S. You'll also find a fur trader's cabin, the Franklin Hose Company firehouse (which dates to 1873), a 19th-century Belgian farmhouse, and a turn-of-the-20th-century cheese factory.

National Railroad Museum

Locomotives, coach cars, lanterns, signal switches, photographs, oral histories of railroad men. This museum is for those with a love affair with railroading and its place in U.S. history. It includes more than 70 pieces of rolling stock, including the Union Pacific No. 4017 "Big Boy" steam locomotive and the London & North Eastern No. 1952 coach, code-named Bayonet -- used by General Eisenhower to tour Allied military bases in Britain during World War II.
