The basic elements of football started at Penn's Franklin Field, Harvard Stadium and the Yale Bowl – three of our four oldest stadiums. Today they stand as monuments to the past, having essentially shaped college football and college athletics on the whole as we know them.

Talk about a history of football: After opening in 1903, it guided the Crimson through national championships in 1910, 1912,
1913 and 1919. But only last season did fans witness its first night game. (Photo courtesy Harvard Athletic Communications)
