Overview
Dover International Speedway provides a major motorsports venue for race fans from several major markets, including Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Baltimore and New York City.

Best known in the racing world as the "Monster Mile" for its ability to chew up race cars, the 135,000-seat, high-banked, 1-mile concrete oval in Dover, Del., is situated in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic region.

Dover International Speedway is in the midst of its multiyear, multimillion dollar capital improvement project dubbed the "Monster Makeover." The third phase of construction began in mid-December 2008 as construction crews removed the existing 1,160-foot inside steel retaining wall that separated pit road from the racing surface. The demolition makes way for a new, 1,592-foot concrete wall that will be fully equipped with a SAFER (Steel and Foam Energy Reduction) barrier. The new wall also will allow the track to add an additional pit stall and more room in the drive lane of pit road. All pit road construction will be completed prior to the May 29-31, 2009, NASCAR race weekend.

The first phase of Monster Makeover construction was completed in 2007 and included a new skybox complex, an expansion of the Infield Media Center and continued beautification of the entire property. In 2008, construction projects included the addition of the Monster Monument at Victory Plaza, a new main entranceway, an expansion of the FanZone display area and the addition of a new emergency services building.
