History: Safeco Field's one-of-a-kind retractable roof is designed to cover, but not enclose the ballpark, and preserve an open-air environment. The park also features one of the most-comprehensive scoreboard systems in Major League Baseball, including 11 electronic displays and an old-fashioned hand-operated scoreboard in left field. A natural-grass custom blend of four types of Kentucky bluegrass and two kinds of perennial ryegrass make up the field. This combination was selected to provide the optimal playing surface for the athletes, the retractable roof and the Northwest climate.

Soak up the scene:
Come hungry because Safeco Field has an excellent selection of food and some great local micro-brews on tap. Try a Sea Dog, a unique take on the traditional ballpark dog that's actually fried cod. Kids:
Children 2 years of age and younger are able to sit in parents lap free of charge for Mariners games.

General:
Beverages, bottles and cans: No outside beverages will be permitted into Safeco Field, with the exceptions of baby bottles/formula; unopened, soft-sided, single-serve containers of drinks (such as small milk cartons, cardboard juice boxes or foil pouches), and medication or other special needs, including specially distilled or purified water (supported by appropriate documentation). Guests may bring in empty, plastic, sports-type bottles and fill them at any of the 75 drinking fountains located throughout the ballpark. Food: The Mariners will allow guests to bring food into Safeco Field subject to the following limitations: All food items should be wrapped, bagged or inside a container to avoid spillage. Food that could be thrown as a projectile (oranges, apples and other fruit) should be sliced or quartered. Food should be consumed in general seating or designated picnic areas. Food may not be brought into any of the ballparks restaurants, lounges or suites. Food containers must be small enough to fit under the guests seat. (This generally means no containers larger than 10"x16"x13".) Bottles, cans, thermoses and jugs are prohibited. Other prohibited items: Beach balls, helium balloons, picnic baskets, laser pointers, noisemakers, air horns and weapons.

Will Call:
Will-call tickets can be picked up at the will-call windows located on Edgar Martinez Drive on the south side of the ballpark across from the Safeco Field parking garage. Will call opens two hours prior to game time and a photo ID is required to pick up tickets.

Directions:
From I-5 southbound: Take Union Street or James Street exit to Second Avenue to access downtown parking lots. Take the Dearborn exit to Fourth Avenue to reach the Union Station Garage or the North Lot (old Kingdome North Lot). Follow the Airport Way exit and turn right on Holgate, then right on First Avenue South to reach the Safeco Field Garage, or take Exit 164 to Fourth Avenue South exit ramp to reach the Stadium Exhibition Center Garage. From I-5 northbound: Take exit 163 to Spokane Street and turn right at Fourth Avenue South to reach the North Lot (old Kingdome North Lot) or Union Station Garage. To reach the Safeco Field Garage, take exit 163 to Spokane Street, turn right at Fourth Avenue South, left at Lander and right on to First Avenue South to the ballpark. Take exit 164B to Fourth Avenue and then right on Royal Brougham to reach the Stadium Exhibition Center Garage. From I-90 westbound: To reach the Stadium Exhibition Center Garage follow the freeway to where it terminates at Fourth Avenue South and turn right. Turn right at South Royal Brougham to garage entrance. To reach the Safeco Field Garage, exit southbound (right) onto Fourth Avenue, continue south to Holgate, west to First Avenue and north the garage. To reach Union Station Garage or the North Lot, follow the freeway to the end then turn left on Fourth Avenue South. To access downtown parking lots, exit I-90 to I-5 northbound and take the James/Madison Street Exit.

Post-game exiting: There is a lot of traffic congestion around the ballpark for approximately 45 minutes after each game, with heaviest congestion occurring along First Avenue at Royal Brougham Way and at Edgar Martinez Drive. Exiting from lots and garages south of the ballpark: To get home fast, follow First Avenue, Fourth Avenue, or Sixth Avenue south and use the I-5 onramp from Spokane Street. From I-5 you may also access I-90 eastbound very quickly. Exiting from lots and garages north of the ballpark: Follow highway access signs to I-5 entrances at James Street, Howell Street (southbound), Olive Way (northbound) or Mercer Street.

Parking:
