History: It was in spring of 1989 when Atlanta and Georgia's movers and shakers gained approval for their dream to create the $210 million Georgia Dome. Groundbreaking ceremonies took place in November 1989 and construction began in earnest in March 1990. By 1992 the stadium became the city's NFL successor to Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, which had hosted the Falcons for 26 years. Atlanta's dome soon gained international recognition when in 1994 it hosted the first of two Super Bowls. The other championship tilt at the facility came in 2000. Recently, the Falcons and GWCC partnered in a renovation process, which included the construction of new suites, red and black seats throughout every section, updates to the entrance gates and concourses, Falcons-themed colors on the outside facade of the Dome and new LED scoreboards.
