9/11: One Year Later
(On the Air)

ESPN - Tue., Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. ET
ESPN - Wed., Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.
ESPN - Tue., Sept. 24 at 4 a.m.
ESPN2 - Wed., Sept. 11 at 7 a.m.

"The Bravest" - OTL attended three games and some practices of the New York City Fire Department's football team as it tried to recover and regroup after losing 22 current and former players. OTL was there when the team was honored in San Diego, and during its annual big game against the New York Police Department.

"Waking Up To A Whole New World" - By the grace of a few minutes early on September 11, 2001, ex-Buffalo Bills fullback Doug Goodwin (1965-68) underwent successful heart transplant surgery in New York City. His new heart left Logan airport at 7:50 a.m. - nine minutes before the first soon-to-be-hijacked plane departed. The heart's plane landed at Teterboro Airport, and the ambulance carrying it to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital crossed the George Washington Bridge into Manhattan just six minutes before the Port Authority ordered all bridges closed. Now, however, he is not so lucky. His insurance ran out July 31st, 2002 yet he continues to have $2000 per month in medication costs. Bills owner Ralph Wilson and former Bills quarterback Jack Kemp have helped Doug in many ways. Now his son must decide if he needs to skip his senior year of football next year at Boston College to help his parents financially -- they want him to get his degree.

"Rebuilding Afghan Sports" - When the Taliban took over Afghanistan, the country's current Olympic team did not return to its country. Now that that regime is over, the athletes hope to put their teams back together and compete in the next Olympics. Other sports teams, especially soccer, are also reforming. OTL went to London where several Afghan players are trying to re-create competitive international teams.

"Mark Bingham" - Is Mark Bingham, one of four passengers credited with stopping hijackers aboard Flight 93, a hero to the gay community as well as to all of America? Is America ready for a gay hero, in sports or any other capacity?

Outside the Lines will also report on the Downtown Athletic Club's struggle for survival in Manhattan, tightened security, and Pat Tillman. Additionally, OTL will update a number of stories from its Outside The Lines: Lives Remembered, which aired September 25, 2001 and honored and commemorated victims and survivors with connections to the sports world by talking with them, or their families, friends, teammates and coaches.
