Major League Gaming (MLG), the professional video game league, today announced its 2008 MLG Pro Circuit schedule exclusively on ESPN.com. The 2008 season will kick off with its first live competition at the Meadowlands Expo Center outside of New York City, followed by competitions in San Diego, Orlando, Toronto and Dallas. The season will conclude with an Invitational Championship Tournament, with timing and location to be announced on www.mlgpro.com in the coming weeks.
Now in its fifth year, the multi-city tour has grown from a series of grassroots local tournaments into large-scale, sold-out competitions which attract the top pro gamers and thousands of players and spectators, with live online broadcasts and television coverage. In 2008, ESPN.com will cover the entire Pro Circuit season, with exclusive streamed matches on ESPN360 and live reporting from each competition.
The Pro Circuit will feature top competitive games such as Halo 3, Gears of War and the soon-to-be-released Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Vegas 2, which includes a multiplayer map depicting an MLG tournament. Online Pro Circuit competitions throughout the season will determine seeding and registration priority for live competitions. Currently, nearly 4,500 teams from across the nation are competing online at mlgpro.com for a berth at the season opener at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. To add to the excitement and action, each 2008 Pro Circuit competition will feature a 3-hour online broadcast of championship matches, complete with live commentary and analysis.
