'NBA Live 10': Five things to know

7/23/2009

EA's partnership with Synergy Sports is one of the most intriguing in all of sports gaming. If done right, this could be the breakthrough we've all been waiting for in terms of making the most realistic representation of video game hoops ever seen. So what should we expect from Year 2 of this deal?

Dobbs Our ultimate goal is to remove all subjectivity from our ratings. I don't want some producer or designer to be the one to make the call on how good Kobe shoots the ball and whether or not a shot should go in.

-- "NBA Live 10" producer Sean O'Brien

"This year, the Synergy stats will dictate how guys shoot in the game. Everything from how guys shoot the ball when they're open, to how they shoot the 3, to how they shoot off the bounce, to how they shoot when they're contested, to how they shoot from the post. All of that stuff is based on data from Synergy Sports, and our ultimate goal is to remove all subjectivity from our ratings. I don't want some producer or designer to be the one to make the call on how good Kobe shoots the ball and whether or not a shot should go in. I want to use all of Synergy's data in as many areas as possible. And a huge undertaking we took this year is allowing our shooting system to allow for that. That's in our five-on-five game, and again, I can't get into too much detail right now, but this will also factor into what we call Dynamic Season as well. This is the true evolution, and it's something that will change the way a connected consumer will interact with the game on a daily basis.

"One of our ultimate goals is when I turn on a television, I see 'SportsCenter' and watch NBA highlights. When I go to ESPN.com, I read something about the sport. I want 'NBA Live' to be as relevant as those other two mediums and be that third medium of relevancy of the sport itself. I think Dynamic DNA, Dynamic Season and everything else we're doing facilitates that. I want you to have a relevant experience when you play 'NBA Live,' and that's been our mantra from the beginning of this project. We want our game to be relevant from the beginning of the season right on through to the end."
