Microsoft unveils Natal publishers
When Microsoft unveiled Project Natal at E3 — a device that combines an RGB camera, depth sensors, and microphones that enable gamers to play their 360 without a controller, instead playing through the use of sight, sound, and movement — it left the audience both in awe and wanting more.
One of the biggest questions left unanswered was a list of publishers who were stepping up to support the innovative new tech. Would we see a UFC game where your punches and kicks in the living room are translated into a beating of Brock Lesnar on screen? Would golfers who line up imaginary puts in their offices all day be able to challenge Tiger Woods with that same swing at night?
Microsoft went a long way in answering some of those questions by releasing a list of publishers who are already working on games for Natal. The list includes Electronic Arts, THQ, Capcom, Activision Blizzard, Bethesda Softworks, Disney Interactive, Konami, MTV Games, Namco Bandai, Sega, Square Enix, and Ubisoft.
"Project Natal' gives the industry's creators and storytellers the freedom to dream of new experiences and to tell stories never before possible," says Don Mattrick, senior vice president for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Corp via press release. "The support of these creative partners testifies to the excitement that 'Project Natal' is generating among the most innovative minds in the industry, and is proof that Xbox 360 not only offers the best games and entertainment today, but will lead with innovation and new ways to have fun in the future."
Adds EA Sports President, Peter Moore: "Microsoft's 'Project Natal' could fundamentally change the way players experience sports games. At EA, some of our top development teams are experimenting with these tools with the goal of delivering a completely fresh take on genres like sports and racing."
As long as we don't actually feel the pain of a Ray Lewis tackle when hit, we're sold.
