Laurel Richie: Lockout won't hurt WNBA

WASHINGTON -- The WNBA's new president says an NBA lockout would not cause a disruption to the season for the women's league.

Laurel Richie said Tuesday that the five NBA-owned teams in the WNBA will "absolutely" continue to play if the NBA locks out its players when its collective bargaining agreement expires Friday.

Seven of the WNBA's 12 teams are independently owned. All WNBA teams were owned by NBA clubs when the women's league started in the 1990s.
