Smith on injured list with bruised knee
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Lynx placed All-Star guard Katie Smith on the injured list Wednesday and activated center Michele Van Gorp.
Van Gorp has been on the injured list since June 7 with an injury to her left foot.
Smith has a bruised right knee that isn't supposed to keep her from playing for the U.S. women's team at the Olympics in Athens. She's expected to miss two-to-three weeks. Olympic competition begins Aug. 14.
Smith, a four-time WNBA All-Star, was injured in Friday night's game at Washington after scrambling for a loose ball.
Van Gorp entered Wednesday's game averaging 3.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 9.6 minutes in five games this season. The 6-foot-6 center is in her sixth year in the WNBA, and her fourth with the Lynx.
