AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Shock will be
without their leading scorer for the remainder of the season.
Prior to their 82-71 victory over the New York Liberty on
Tuesday, the Shock placed Swin Cash on the injured list with a
torn ACL in her left knee.
Cash, who ranked seventh in the league at 16.4 points per game,
suffered the injury midway through the first half of Detroit's
win at Phoenix on Saturday. She also ranked eighth in assists
(4.2) and 11th in rebounding (6.5).
In a related move, the Shock signed guard-forward Stacey Thomas
for the remainder of the season. Thomas, who played one
scoreless minute Tuesday, was released in training camp after
averaging 1.4 points and 1.5 rebounds in 11 regular-season games last year.
Detroit is in a three-way tie for third place in the Eastern
Conference with one game remaining. The defending-champion
Shock are one game behind first-place co-leaders Charlotte and
Connecticut but just one-half game ahead of sixth-place Indiana,
with four teams making the conference playoffs.
