Adubato to return after 16-18 season
WASHINGTON -- The Washington Mystics announced Monday coach Richie Adubato will return for the 2006 season.
Adubato became the franchise's eighth coach in eight seasons this year, getting the job one week before the start of training camp and leading the team to a 16-18 record.
"He is a proven winner and a great teacher," general manager Linda Hargrove said. "I look for our young players to continue to develop under his leadership, and I feel that great things are in store for our franchise."
Adubato previously spent 5½ seasons with the New York Liberty, leading the team to three conference titles and a 100-79 record. He was previously an NBA head coach with the Detroit Pistons (1979-80), Dallas Mavericks (1989-93) and Orlando Magic (1996-97).
"I am happy to get another opportunity to coach the Mystics," Adubato said. "I think we laid the foundation for a new system and with the talented players on our team, it is going to be great."
