Westhead, Whisenant to wear mics in opener
ABC will cover the storylines from every angle when the WNBA's 10th season opens Saturday.
Both Mercury coach Paul Westhead and Monarchs coach John Whisenant will wear live microphones when defending champion Sacramento hosts Diana Taurasi and Phoenix at 4 p.m. ET Saturday on ABC.
At least one of the game's officials also will wear a microphone.
The game also marks the WNBA coaching debut of Westhead, who led the Lakers to the 1980 NBA title and is the only NCAA Division I coach to coach an NBA champion.
Three other games will be played Saturday to tip off the 2006 season.
Two games will be nationally televised next Tuesday, with ESPN2 airing a Sun-Lynx matchup at 9 p.m. ET and a Comets-Storm contest at 11 p.m. ET.
ABC's coverage continues Saturday, May 27, with the Shock at the Sun (4 p.m. ET), a rematch of last season's first round of the playoffs in the East.
