Fever's Catching hits head, leaves playoff game
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings was helped to the Indiana locker room after her head struck the floor during the third quarter of the Fever's playoff game against the Detroit Shock on Saturday.
Catchings and Plenette Pierson were going for a loose ball when Catchings fell out of bounds and landed heavily on her back. She stayed down on the floor as play continued.
After Tan White fouled Deanna Nolan to stop the clock, Fever players and trainers rushed to check on Catchings, who was in a sitting position with her head on her knees.
Catchings, chosen earlier in the week as the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, was helped to her feet and assisted by teammates as she went to the locker room.
She returned and played later in the game.
