Injured forward Sales to miss '08 season
UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Connecticut Sun forward Nykesha Sales plans to sit out this WNBA season because of assorted injuries.
Sales said that after playing a light schedule overseas in the offseason she realized she needed time to get healthy. The 31-year-old All-Star intends to return to the league.
Sales played 248 straight games from 1999-2006, the second-longest streak of consecutive games played in the league. She helped lead the Sun to two straight WNBA Finals.
In 2006, she was forced to sit out 12 games with a sore Achilles tendon and then missed eight more games last year with a concussion and sore ankle.
Coach Mike Thibault said Sales has been agonizing over the decision and he respects her desire to make her health a priority.
Sales is the career leading scorer at the University of Connecticut.
