Sun backup guard Carey retires
UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Connecticut Sun point guard Jamie Carey has retired from the WNBA to pursue work in coaching and marketing.
Carey was a 3-point specialist who mostly backed up Lindsay Whalen. She averaged just more than 3 points a game. She signed with the Sun as a free agent in 2005.
Carey works for a sports event marketing firm. She just finished her first season as coach of a girls' high school basketball team in Broomfield, Colo.
In college, Carey transferred to Texas after Stanford's doctors wouldn't clear her to return because of concussions. She led the Longhorns to the Final Four in 2003.
