Dales leads Sky to easy victory against Comets

HOUSTON -- Stacey Dales scored 17 points to lead the Chicago Sky to an 81-70 win over the Houston Comets on Thursday night.

Candice Dupree had 14 points, Jia Perkins added 13, Brooke Wyckoff 12 and Dominique Canty 10 for the second-year Sky (14-19). Chicago, which finishes the season at New York on Sunday, has nine more wins than in its inaugural season last year.

Tina Thompson scored a season-high 33 points on 12-for-20 shooting from the field, and Tamecka Dixon added 14 points for Houston (12-21).

After trailing by double figures most of the game, the Comets used a 10-2 run to pull to 55-51 on Roneeka Hodges' 3-pointer with 1:39 left in the third. The Sky closed the quarter with six consecutive points to push their lead to 10.

The Comets pulled to 61-53 on Thompson's jumper to start the fourth, but that was as close as they got. The Sky stretched their lead to 10 on Dupree's free throws with 7:36 left and the lead never dipped into single digits the rest of the way.

Chicago started the game by outscoring the Comets 21-2. Dales had eight points in the quarter and gave the Sky the 19-point lead on a 3-pointer with 2:10 left in the opening quarter.

Houston pulled to 41-34 at halftime by outscoring the Sky 27-20 in the second quarter. Thompson kept Houston in the game by scoring 16 points in the first half.
